Never thought I'd have a NY real estate agent as my hero, but now I do! No, really.
Seems that Moammar Khadafy - you know the despotic terrorist dictator and fashion leader of Libya - the gold elephant hat is particularly striking - is having a rather hard time finding a place to stay during his upcoming visit to the UN. After the locals living near his first choice told him to take his tent and shove it and for some strange reason his request to set up a tent in Central Park was turned down, he decided to rent some posh digs on the Upper East Side (5 E. 78 st - wherever the hell that is). Alas, Moammar's ego was again shattered - this time by Jason Haber, who used all the tact of Gen Patton when he politely declined to rent the dictator the digs. O.K., there was no "polite" in the decline - In Haber's own words:
They kept asking, 'What would be the price? What would be the price?' I thought about it and said, 'Why don't you send Megrahi back to Scotland, and then maybe we can work something out.' They hung up on me immediately.
Megrahi is the Libyan who was convicted and jailed in Scotland for blowing up the Pan Am flight over Locerbie killing 270 people, including 189 Americans. Alas, he was freed by the Scottish authorities with the help and support of the British government - supposedly because he only has 3 months to live. However, it turns out that the real reason this terrorist was released was so the UK could secure some rather large oil contracts for BP with the Libyans. To make it worse, the Brits claim that the Obama administration was kept informed of the plans to release this murderer all along.
NY real estate brokers go where Scotland, the UK, and apparently Obama fear to tread...who woulda thunk?
